Wow! I would recommend this activity to anyone! All staff, both on shore and on the ferry, were knowledgeable, fun, and super patient and dedicated. We saw eagles, seals, and a Grizzly Bear! They all seemed to really enjoy being there with us (not just a job).

Alaska Backcountry Outfitter is well stocked with adventure gear and supplies for all seasons. We’re open year-round to serve those who enjoy outdoor activities. Headquarters for items you'll need during the annual Bike Race, Beer Festival, Bald Eagle Festival, or Big Air Contest. If you’re in town for an extended raft trip, climbing expedition, extreme-mountain riding, or snowmobiling, stop in and get what you need. Our helpful staff and knowledgeable technical crew can assist with selecting and maintaining your gear.
The Store
The store also offers items from local artists including zipper-pulls, pins, t-shirts, note cards, and fine art. We stock wildlife viewing optics, bird & plant identification books, and topo maps. Some of our popular items include Haines Brewing Company, Ray Troll, and Alaska Chilkoot Bear Foundation t-shirts and hats. If you're a runner, dancer, enjoy yoga, or walking we have footwear and clothing to keep you comfortable.

Rentals & Service
Our rentals include AT & cross-country skis, boots, poles, snowboards, and snowshoes. During the summer, we have sea kayaks available. Throughout the year, the tech shop is open for repairs & maintenance.
